WAAGACUSUB:- Police in the breakaway region of Somaliland have arrested three women in Hargeisa over allegations of voter bribery, barely six days to the D-day.

The suspects were arrested by the police after they were allegedly caught by the members of the public dishing out food and cash to voters in exchange for votes.

Somaliland police spokesman, Faisal Hiis Mohamed says the three were undergoing interrogation and would be arraigned in a court if found culpable.


"The police are holding the suspects as they continue with the investigation. If crimes were committed, police will take them to court,” said Mohamed during a press conference in Hargeisa.

In recent days, allegations of voter bribery have increased.

Somaliland will hold its presidential elections on 13th November this year following several poll postponement.

With over 870, 000 voters, the elections will take place 23 districts across the region.

Somaliland has declared unilateral independence from the rest of Somalia in 1991.

Despite restoring stability and governance, it’s efforts for an international recognition has not so far accomplished.
